Experience:
- Clinical Experience: Has experience of more than 25 years in Psychiatry. Well versed with independent assessment and management of all types of psychiatric cases-out patients, in-patients as well as emergencies. Has wide experience in rendering specialized treatments like ETC, B.T. (certain techniques), Counseling, abreaction, detoxification, Antabuse treatment etc. Having worked in one of the biggest general hospitals (1500 beds) in India, has very good experience in Liaison Psychiatry too. Had outpatient clinic thrice a week and on an average used to see 20-25 patients per clinic. The Psychiatry ward had 30 beds which were fully occupied most of the time. 5-8 modified ECTs per session were given at the hospital on 3 days in a week.
- Clinical Experience in U.A.E. : Has worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist in United Arab Emirates for more then 10 years and has been exposed to the local culture and its influences. Has handled all types of psychiatric patients seeing on an average about 300 patients per month. Ran the clinic 6 days a week seeing 10-12 patients per clinic. About a third (35%) of the patients were Arabs, majority of them being locals. About 15-20% of the patients were westerners from countries like Canada , USA, Ireland etc. Was rendering consultation / liaison services.
Teaching Responsibilites
- Teach & Academic Experience:
Has teaching experience of 6 years after obtaining post-graduate qualification in Psychiatry. Held faculty positions of Lecturer and Asst. Professor in Psychiatry in Kasturba Medical College (K.M.C), Manipal, India. It is one Of the reputed medical colleges in India and was started 50 years ago. Presently it is a deemed University. Has taught Psychiatry (both theory and clinical teaching) to under graduate (M.B.B.S.) students as well as post graduate (M.D. Internal Medicine) students as well as post graduate (M.D. Internal Medicine) Students For more than 6 years. Started a Residency Program in Psychiatry in 1983 and Post graduate Courses in Psychiatry - both Diploma (DPM) and MD(Psychiatry)-in June, 1985. Right from the Inception was actively involved in planning the curriculum, training as well as assessment / evaluation of Psychiatric Residents & Post-Graduate students. Has
Presented several scientific papers at the Zonal and National Conferences as well as chaired a few sessions. Has also participated in several seminars and work shops
- Academic Experience in UA.E: Regularly Attended the weekly casconferences/Seminars. Has written several articles in the popular press as well as given Radio Talk for educating the general public. Also regularly attended and actively participated in most of the Psychiatric seminars, symposia and workshops.
- Research Experience :
- Anxiety Neurosis-A study of 30 cases with special reference to psychophysiological responsivity to stress. Psychophysiological parameters like EEG, EMG, HR & BP in patients with Anxiety Neurosis were compared with those of normal controls.
- Childhood Psychiatric Disorders in a Teaching General Hospital. 10 years data was analyzed to find out the pattern of Presentation of psychiatric disorders in children. Mental Retardation was most common diagnosis followed by Development Disorders.
